An energy certificate is mandatory for small commercial real estate in Flanders
The so-called EPC-certificate is from 2020 mandatory for non-residential buildings or units, especially small commercial units or offices located in larger multi-purpose or residential properties. Units of a larger commercial buildings do not yet require an EPC-certificate.
The EPC-certificate is required for units smaller than 500 m² as far as the non-residential part is not larger than 1000 m². The EPC-certificate is not required for industrial space.
The owner will be subject to fines of 500 € to 5000 € when there is no EPC-certificate.
